Alone but not really alone

The Wanderer goes on the couch, sitting, watching TV, he watches a show for a little bit, and then turns off the TV to go on the computer, he goes onto the Internet, check out the news floating about on the web. He then goes up, gets a drink of water and then sits back on the couch. The Wanderer is in his living space, alone, no one is physically around him. He has been alone all day, making minimal contact with other people. He has been out places, but he has gone out alone. He hasn’t even come across someone he knows well to talk to them. Our wandering friend has spent his day alone, or so it appears. Some would say that the Wanderer is alone, and physically speaking he has been, but he is not really alone. God is with him, God has been with him the entire time. God is there for every step, every decision, every internal thought, and every external action.
The Wanderer can feel God’s presence, he can feel it both internally and externally. He knows that God has blessed him in the current moment that he is in. The Wanderer enjoys the company of others, he likes to be around people, and he certainly gets positive feelings when he has positive interactions from other people, like most of us would. But he doesn’t need to be around people, he doesn’t need to be in the presence of other human beings, for they are just extra benefits. All he really needs is the presence of God, for God to be with him, and God always is with him. Through God’s everlasting love, The Wanderer has learned to be comfortable being alone, comfortable with himself to not need the presence of other people to sustain himself.

As The Wanderer wraps up his day, he prays in contemplative silence, he lets go of his thoughts and tries to get more in touch with his almighty father who has kept him company all day. He then reads from the bible, so he can hear the message his loving father has to him for today. He then goes to bed in a state of satisfaction. He may not have much, but he has all that he needs, most of all contentment and God’s presence in his life. What else does he need?
